Creative Cool Down Summer Snacks

Don’t let high temps kill your vibe this summer – stay cool with some of these creative (and healthy) snacks!

Fruit Kabobs - Whether you are looking for a fun and healthy snack for the kids in your life, or a treat to take to a pool party or cookout – fruit kabobs are always a hit! Get creative and make a rainbow kabob out of pineapples, strawberries, kiwi, grapes, and oranges. Or, get patriotic and layer strawberries, blueberries and pieces of cut up pound cake (note: you will want whipped topping for dipping). Just chop these tasty fruits into cubes and place on a skewer, and viola! It’s a fruit kabob party!


Homemade Frozen Yogurt - Looking for a yummy frozen treat to chill with during summer break? Blend your choice of fresh fruit (we like a combination of strawberries and blueberries) with vanilla or plain non-fat yogurt. Then, simply put it in the freezer for a couple of hours and enjoy! It’s fun, easy and a lot cheaper than hitting up your local frozen yogurt shop on the daily. 



Watermelon, Mint & Feta Salad - This summer salad is light, healthy and delicious! You’ve probably had all of these ingredients separately, but if you mix them together, you’ve got an easy to make side that’s perfect for any pool party or other outside event. Start with watermelon chopped into cubes; add some nuts, mint leaves, feta cheese, and whatever else your heart desires (like lemon juice, olive oil, salt, pepper, or sweet onions) for the ultimate summer salad.


Ham and Cheese Skewers - We’re putting a spin on the old favorite ham sandwich. Ham and cheese skewers are perfect for entertaining at your next shindig or for casual snacking at home. All you need are two or three blocks of different cheeses, cherry tomatoes, thinly sliced ham, dill pickles, and skewer sticks. Cut the cheese, ham and pickles into bite size pieces and place (along with the cherry tomatoes) on the skewer. 


Fruit and Yogurt Parfait - What’s a healthy summer without a parfait! To make this goodness happen right at home, you’ll need plain or vanilla yogurt, granola, fresh berries, and any other fruit you like such as mangos, peaches or bananas. Grab a nice sized cup (depending on how much parfait you want) and place the yogurt on the bottom layer. Place your granola on top and repeat this cycle with fruit or whatever else you like. In minutes you’ll have a yummy breakfast treat or cool dessert.
