3 Ways to Love Your HBCU
Help keep our HBCUs strong
You don’t have to be an HBCU alum to understand the value of our historically black colleges and universities. Below are three easy ways to show support and ensure future generations have their own HBCU college experiences on the yard and off.
Party with a Purpose
Turning out engineers and entrepreneurs isn’t the only thing HBCUs are known for. Alumni also know how to turn it up. Keep an eye out of local events hosted by HBCU alum chapters in your area. Often they are tied to fundraisers, which means your good time will help fund scholarships, programming, capital campaigns, and more on HBCU campuses across the country.
Every time you purchase a ticket to an HBCU football classic or basketball tournament, you’re supporting athletic programs that produce some of pro sports biggest stars. Make it a point to support non-revenue sports, too. For generations, HBCUs were some of the only institutions where black student-athletes could compete in golf, tennis, lacrosse and more.
Be a Band Booster
Love a good drumline? Think half-time is no fun without flair and fanfare? Then earmark a few dollars to be an annual band booster. Help support the training and travel of the next-generation of African-American performers. At the very least, make sure to attend any battle of the bands events near you.
